JJay Berthume
JJay Berthume is freelance composer known for his popular YouTube channel featuring educational videos on topics such as music composition, orchestration, arranging, and harmonization.
As a current student at Furman University, JJay is seeking a degree in Music Composition while also studying piano and jazz.

As a student in the esteemed music department at Furman University, JJay studies composition (his primary interest) with Mark Kilstofte, Jay Bocook, and Daniel Koppelman. As a classical musician, JJay studies under Derek Parsons; as the featured keyboard player for the Furman Jazz Ensemble (and one of its
combos), he primarily works with such musicians as saxophonist and ensemble
director Matt Olson, keyboardist Keith Davis, and guitarist Steve Watson. By
meeting and exceeding expectations with all of these connections within the department, JJay has been able to get many of his works performed on student recitals as well as the Fall 2018 Honors Recital while also appearing on faculty recitals featuring Daniel Koppelman (piano) and Christopher Hutton (cello).
In addition to his work as a student and prolific content creator on YouTube, JJay enjoys teaching composition lessons via Skype to an international online music studio large enough to warrant a waiting list. If you would like to contact JJay to commission a new work or to take private lessons, you are encouraged to contact him directly through the contact form below.
